Sprint, Verizon iPhone 4S handsets to be unlocked

Sprint dan Verizon Wireless kedua-duanya akan menawarkan 4S telefon bimbit iPhone yang akan GSM-unlocked, laporan negara baru. Macworld pada hari Selasa mengesahkan bahawa unit 4S bawah dijual oleh Sprint akan GSM-unlocked keluar dari kotak, manakala telefon bimbit yang dijual oleh Verizon Wireless akan datang dikunci, tetapi pengguna boleh memanggil Verizon meminta untuk "membuka kunci antarabangsa" dan pengangkut akan mewajibkan disediakan akaun pengguna telah dalam kedudukan yang baik untuk 60 hari.

Sprint, Verizon iPhone 4S handsets to be unlocked

Sprint and Verizon Wireless will both offer iPhone 4S handsets that will be GSM-unlocked, a new report states. Macworld on Tuesday confirmed that iPhone 4S units sold by Sprint will be GSM-unlocked out of the box, while handsets sold by Verizon Wireless will come locked, but a user can call Verizon asking for an “international unlock” and the carrier will oblige provided the user’s account has been in good standing for 60 days. Customers who plan to roam internationally or use an unlocked iPhone 4S in the U.S. should note that the handset requires a micro-SIM rather than a standard SIM card.

UPDATE: A Sprint spokesperson told Ars Technica that it will not, in fact, be selling GSM-unlocked iPhones.

A short video showcasing Apple’s new iPhone 4S surfaced on Monday, and now we have our first full “YouTube review” of a handset that was seemingly delivered ahead of schedule.

YouTube user applemastertouch has posted a video walk-through that is nearly 9 minutes long. In it, he shows off Apple’s brand new smartphone and gives us a thorough look at the device’s most highly anticipated new feature, Siri.

Other iOS 5 features make appearances as well, but Siri is the clear star of the show as we see various commends that can - and cannot - be acted on by Apple’s new personal assistant feature. Apple releases iTunes 10.5 ahead of iOS 5 availability tomorrow

Apple on Tuesday released the latest version of its iTunes software to the general public. ITunes 10.5 brings with it several anticipated new features including support for Apple’s iTunes in the Cloud service, and it will be required for users who wish to update an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad to iOS 5 following its release on Wednesday. Apple’s change log for iTunes 10.5 is as follows:

What’s new in iTunes 10.5
iTunes in the Cloud. iTunes now stores your music and TV purchases in iCloud and makes them available on your devices anywhere, any time, at no additional cost.

Automatic Downloads. Purchase music from any device or computer and automatically download a copy to your Mac and iOS devices.

Download Previous Purchases. Download your past music, TV, app, and book purchases again, at no additional cost. Previous purchases may be unavailable if they are no longer on the iTunes Store.

Sync with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 5.

Wi-Fi Syncing. Automatically sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iTunes any time they’re both on the same Wi-Fi network.

ITunes 10.5 and iOS 5 will also finally enable Wi-Fi synchronization for iOS device users, allowing users to sync devices with iTunes without having to connect to a computer via USB.

Facebook app finally comes to Apple’s iPad

Facebook users can finally stop wondering why no official Facebook app is available for Apple’s iPad. As of Monday evening, Facebook’s iOS app is now a universal binary that supports the iPhone and iPod touch as well as the iPad. Among the app’s key features, Facebook lists high-resolution photo support, slide and pinch gesture support, Facebook game compatibility and quick access to messaging features from almost any view within the app. Facebook’s full statement to the press follows below.

Today, Facebook announced their first app for the iPad.

Facebook for iPad not only includes popular features from the site like photos and games, but also optimizes them for the unique capabilities of the iPad.

Additionally Facebook announced they are extending the Facebook Platform to mobile including the new iPad app, iPhone/iPod app and mobile web site. The Facebook Platform will allow mobile developers to take advantage of social channels for search of discovery of their apps and also the Facebook Credits payment system.
